A member of the committee told The Express Tribune the decision was taken after FATA MNA Ghalib Wazir’s nephew was abducted a few weeks ago.
“The family approached the 120-member peace committee of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe,” he said.“The forum was recently established to take action against criminals and terrorists.”
According to the peace committee member, the houses were demolished in light of a decision taken by tribal elders. The kidnappers hailed from Ashraf Khel, Wacha Khawar, Kalusha and Waja Ghundai villages.
Malik Bahadar Khan, another committee member and an elder of the tribe, said a series of steps had been initiated to restore peace in the region.
“Elders are now discussing the fate of several other militants who were allegedly involved in criminal acts and are hosting foreign militants,” he said. “After the peace committee was established, foreign militants fled from Wana to other places.”
An official of the political administration confirmed that the houses have been demolished.
“However, we have not received any information about whether each of them was fined Rs1 million,” he added.
