KARACHI:

The Rangers Special Task Force (RSTF) claims to have apprehended an official of a private bank over allegations of embezzling Rs2.9 million from his own bank.

The accused, identified as Naeem Ahmed, was the operations manager at a private bank. RSTF official Najeeb Dana Wala confirmed the arrest and said that the accused had embezzled nearly Rs2.9 million, including foreign currency, from his own bank a few days ago, adding that the RSTF took action following a complaint received by the bank.

He said that the accused was arrested during a raid at a hotel in the city but only half of the looted money has been recovered, as the remaining amount was lost by the suspect while gambling. Separately, the Rangers conducted an intelligence-driven raid on the hideout of a banned outfit in Lyari. The Rangers spokesperson said that, during the raid, two alleged terrorists, involved in various improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in the city, were arrested.
