FAISALABAD: The Livestock Department is set to start distribution of poultry units at subsidised rates in the district from January 7, 2016, Livestock Deputy District Officer (DDO) Muhammad Irfan told The Express Tribune on Tuesday. The DDO said each unit would comprise five hens and a rooster. He said the purpose of the exercise was to promote livestock breeding at the household level. He said 700 units would be distributed among the general public and seven among imam masjids (prayer leaders) or lumberdars. The DDO said so far the department had received 300 applications. He said poultry units would be distributed among these applicants on January 7. Of the remaining 407 units, 200 would be distributed on January 9 and 207 on January 11, 2016.  A ballot would be used to select recipients if the number of applicants exceeded the 707 mark, the DDO said.
