SUKKUR: Six members of a family including a newlywed couple were killed in a road accident at City Bypass, Sukkur, situated within the limits of the Airport police late on Sunday.

Muhammad Usman Abbasi, resident of Sukkur Township near City Bypass, had married Bushra Abbasi on Saturday. The next day, the couple and the groom’s sisters were returning home after the valima ceremony. When their car reached City Bypass, a speeding passenger coach on the way to Karachi hit the car. Resultantly, the six of them were killed on the spot while the groom’s younger brother was injured.

The deceased were identified as Usman, his wife Bushra, his sisters Sawera, Kiran and Huma and her five-month-old son, Nadeem.

The injured was identified as Muhammad Adnan.

The Airport police rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies and the injured to Civil Hospital, Sukkur, where Adnan’s condition was said to be stable.

The head constable at Airport police station, Ghous Bux Lund, told The Express Tribune that the coach driver and conductor managed to escape after the accident and that the police have impounded the coach. Investigation is under way, he said.

On the other hand, the bodies of the six family members were shifted to Sukkur Township after post-mortem, where they were laid to rest in the nearby graveyard.

Before this, many accidents have taken place at City Bypass, which links the National Highway to Sukkur city and where heavy traffic passes through round the clock.

During the day, the bypass bustles with heavy traffic as most of the traffic between Punjab and Karachi and Quetta and Karachi passes through this route, while at night there is low flow of traffic, due to which over-speeding of the vehicles has become common.
