The Election Commission of Pakistan has been urged to issue a notification declaring Timergara MPA Aizazul Mulk Afkari the winner of the PK-95, Lower Dir-II by-polls. This was said by JI Lower Dir chief Rahatullah during a news conference in Timergara on Sunday.
“Development work in Jandol area has screeched to a halt as Afkari’s success notification has yet to be issued,” he added. According to Rahatullah, ECP should issue Afkari’s notification by the stipulated date. “It has been seven months since the polls and the failure to issue a notification is affecting locals,” he said.
Rahatullah hinted at the involvement of NGOs in ECP’s decision to delay the notification. He said the Peshawar High Court should file contempt of court case against the election commissioner if he fails to act promptly in this regard. The PK-95 seat was vacated by JI Ameer Sirajul Haq after he was elected senator. The by-elections were held on May 7, however, results have not been announced.
