Safeguarding Balochistan: Top FC official says troops striving to secure borders

Major General Sher Afgun sees trust in security forces as the key to defeating militants

QUETTA: The Inspector General of the Frontier Corps (IGFC) in Balochistan, Major General Sher Afgun, said the paramilitary force has been striving to secure the province’s porous borders.

“We are prepared to confront all kind of enemies,” IGFC said in a meeting with the civil administration, tribal elders and general public during his visit to the Makran division on Saturday.



“FC Balochistan has given immense sacrifices to protect the people of Balochistan, we have heightened surveillance of Balochistan’s porous borders to halt the militants’ activities,” Maj Gen Afgun said.

Stressing upon cooperation with security forces, he said that militants can only be defeated when people trust the forces. The inspector general urged the people to inform security forces about any suspicious movement in their area.

Regarding the upcoming local bodies elections in Turbat, he said that FC would provide security for the polls so that people may elect their representatives in a peaceful environment. Moreover, Maj Gen Afgun said FC soldiers will continue with their endeavours to provide health and education in far flung areas.



FC raids

Paramilitary force personnel, acting on a tip-off, recovered rocket launchers, sub-machineguns and bullets hidden in a compound in Killi Wali Dad area of Gwadar, an FC spokesman said. No arrest was made during the raid.



Meanwhile, FC troops apprehended two suspected militants from Gawal Ismailzai area of Zhob. “During a routine patrol FC soldiers arrested two suspects believed to be members of terrorist group and shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation,” an FC spokesman said.
