BAHAWALPUR: The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) syndicate has approved Rs3.1 billion budget for the 2015-16. This includes a development component of Rs675.716 million.

The decision was taken at the syndicate’s 60th meeting.

Other decisions taken at the meeting included grant of approval to the appointment of a professor, an associate professor and 93 assistant professors; promotion of 54 officials; adoption of a three percent job quota for people with disabilities; and an agreement between the university and the National Testing Service for administration of scholarship and admission tests by the latter.

The members expressed their satisfaction at the filling of vacancies in the selection board for academic staff and the board of advanced studies.

They also endorsed the decision of the administration to divide the academic year into two semesters and to receive semester fee in two installments.

The meeting was chaired by IUB Vice Chancellor Qaiser Mushtaq. Others present on the occasion were Lahore High Court Bahawalpur bench’s Justice Ameer Iqbal Bhatti, University of Gujrat Vice Chancellor Ziaul Qayyum, Parliamentary Secretary Khalid Mahmood Jajja, IUB Faculty of Sciences Dean Muhammad Asghar Hashmi, Faculty of Medicine Dean Mahmood Ahmad, Government College for Women Bahawalpur principal Rabia Yasmeen, Assistant Professor Khalilur Rehman and representatives of the Finance Department and the Higher Education Department.
