Eight killed in coach-tanker collision in Khuzdar

QUETTA: Eight passengers were killed and more than a dozen others injured as a Karachi-bound passenger coach collided with an oil tanker at Quetta-Karachi highway on Saturday evening.

Rescue workers and Levies personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the deceased and injured to district hospital where doctors declared the condition of several injured critical.

Confirming the casualties, Assistant Commissioner Khuzdar Sarmad Saleem said, “Prime cause of the accident was over speeding.”

“Driver of the coach has been taken into custody and a thorough investigation will be carried out to bring those responsible for the mishap to justice,” he added.

According to an eye witness, the over speeding coach collided with the tanker in a bid to overtake it.

Quetta-Karachi Highway has a history of deadly road accidents due to poor road conditions and reckless driving.

Earlier on March 22, two collisions between passenger coaches and trucks on the said highway near Gadani area of Lasbela district left at least 38 people dead.
