The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TiKA) will provide technical assistance to the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) for the promotion of technical education and vocational training system across the Punjab, TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh announced on Thursday. He was speaking to TEVTA officers following his visit to Turkey.


Sheikh said the TiKA would provide modern equipment worth $0.5 million to start courses related to garments industry at the Government Institute of Emerging Technology, Township, Lahore. He said that students enrolled for garments and hospitality courses would receive a two-weeks training in Turkey. He said the training would help them secure jobs in both local and international markets. The TEVTA chief said the TiKa would also provide training to TEVTA trainers to start demand-driven courses in cooking and tourism according to the needs of international markets. He said the government intended to train 500,000 skilled workers annually over the next four years.
