LAHROE:

Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices on a petition by the Punjab University registrar challenging a stay order against the appointment process for a new vice chancellor of the varsity.

Advocate Awais Khalid, the university’s legal adviser, told the court that Punjab Higher Education Department had the lawful jurisdiction to initiate the appointment process. He said the provincial government had constituted search committees to fill vacant slots of VCs in all public sector universities.

He said some individuals had filed baseless petitions against the appointment process without making the university a party to the proceedings. He asked the court to withdraw a stay against the appointment.

Justice Shahid Karim issued notices to other parties in the case for January 13. Sami Uzair Khan and two faculty members of the university had moved court against the appointment of a new vice chancellor.
