Seventh polio case surfaces in Karachi

Official says family had refused polio vaccination for the child

KARACHI: Despite aggressive campaign against the crippling disease, a fresh poliovirus case surfaced in Karachi on Tuesday, taking the total to seven in the city, and 12 in the entire Sindh province, health officials said on Tuesday.

Seventeen-month-old son of Hukam Khan, who has contracted the virus, is a resident of the Gulshan-e-Noor area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal town.

Officials say the family is Pashto-speaking, and the child was never vaccinated.

Another official added the family had refused the vaccination, and is the only such case in the city.

Hari Om | 9 years ago | Reply A consequence of Pakistan boxing way above her weight class. When Pakistan accepts reality of being inferior to India and cuts back unaffordable spending on conventional and nuclear weapons in order to achieve chimera of parity with India, problems like Polio which suffer from not having enough resources devoted, will be resolved.
