FAISALABAD:

The Iqbal Town TMA assistant tax superintendent was found dead in his office on Monday morning. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

A police spokesperson said the body was discovered by employees of the Iqbal Town TMA when they arrived at the office early on Monday. They found Muhammad Saeed lying on the floor of his office.

Civil Lines police were informed. They arrived at the office and took the body to a mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Civil Lines DSP Abdul Majeed said Saeed had come to the office on Sunday and stayed the night. The DSP said their initial investigation suggested that he had died of natural causes. Saeed’s close relatives, however, smell a rat.  They said they were certain that Saeed was murdered by some people he had taken official action against.  Muhammad Anwar, a close relative of the deceased, told The Express Tribune that Saeed was an honest officer. “He had initiated action against several corrupt officials without discrimination.”

Saeed was unrelenting when it came to his work and had been threatened several times, Anwar said. “He had gone up against several corrupt people during his career.”

Employees of the Iqbal Town TMA, however, ruled out foul play.  They said most likely he had died a natural death.

Nazir Hussain, an employee at the Iqbal Town TMA, said Saeed’s wife had recently been diagnosed with last-stage cancer. “I think Saeed might have suffered cardiac arrest considering the stress he was under.”
