SNGPL officials said that the decision would mean that more than 300 million million cubic feet of gas previously supplied per day to industries and CNG stations would shift to the domestic sector. All towns and cities in Punjab have suffered major gas load shedding this winter season.
The officials said that another reason for the decision was to stop tripping at the SNGPL’s Multan compressor station. SNGPL’s decision was criticised by industries and public transport companies. Maqsood Butt, chairman of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, said the move was a violation of the prime minister’s orders that industries get gas supply for five days a week. Ghias Piracha, chairman of the All Pakistan CNG Association, criticised the decision as harmful to transporters.
