Copying trademark: Shoe company seeks action against rivals

An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday sought comments from the Masti Gate SHO on a petition filed by the Bata Pakistan Limited seeking a case against three shoe companies for using its trademark. BATA Pakistan Limited Public Relations Manager Hamaad Raza Awan submitted that the company was incorporated under the Companies Ordinance, 1984.He said Fine Shoe Company, Waleed Bin Khalid Shoes and Vicky Shoes were defrauding the public by selling their products using Bata’s trademark. He said their products carried the name Bota which copied the style of Bata. He said they had not only been damaging Bata’s reputation, but also incurring financial losses to the company. He requested the court to direct the SHO to register an FIR against them.
