Our darkest hour: Walk held to pay homage to Peshawar martyrs

Commemorative events to be organised across the province.

SIALKOT/ FAISALABAD: A walk was organised in Sialkot on Thursday to pay homage to those martyred in the Peshawar carnage.

Rescue-1122 personnel, educationists and students among people from all walks of like participated in the walk that commenced from the DCO Office and concluded at the Allama Iqbal Chowk. Those present on the occasion raised slogans in support of the military for initiating Zarb-i-Azb. They carried placards inscribed with words eulogising those martyred in the Peshawar carnage. They vowed to never forget the deceased.

Faisalabad

All arrangements have been finalised for Friday’s T-20 friendly cricket match between Lahore traffic police and city traffic police at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium.

The contest is being organised as part of a series of events being held across the district in connection with Martyrs Week under the aegis of district authorities to pay tribute to those martyred in December 16’s Peshawar carnage, officials said.

District authorities have also formulated a series of programmes to mark the week from December 10 to 16. Officials said a poster exhibition would be organised at the Faisalabad Arts Council in this regard. They said the exhibit would feature the work of students from private as well as public institutions.

The Education Department would also organise a painting exhibit at People’s Colony’s Govt Girls Higher Secondary School. The department and Directorate of Colleges would also conduct three essay writing competitions at Bohwana Bazaar’s Government MC Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Tariqabad’s Government Muslim High School and Abdullahpur’s Government College of Commerce.

Another essay writing competition would be held in this regard at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s (UAF’s) Iqbal Auditorium. The Sports Department would also organise two sporting competitions. Of these, a skating competition would be held at Jinnah Garden and a series of T-20 cricket matches between various teams at Bohranwali Ground.

A prayer session and a seminar would also be organised at Faisalabad’s Social Welfare Complex under the aegis of the Social Welfare DO. The Auqaf Department and the District Peace Committee would also organise lectures, peace and tolerance across religious seminaries.
