Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the federal government and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in connection with a petition against a duty-free Indian jewellery show underway in collaboration with SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Advocate Azhar Siddique, the counsel for the petitioner, told the court that the FBR had allowed Indian jewelers to exhibit their products. He alleged that the government had organised the show only to gratify Indian traders while Pakistani businessmen were not afforded similar privileges across the border. He requested the court to set aside the tax rebate given to Indian traders. Justice Shahid Karim sought replies from the respondents by January 22 following the conclusion of arguments.
