PM Nawaz presides high-level meeting to review security situation

Premier discusses agenda of Heart of Asia conference, briefed on India-Pakistan NSA meeting in Bangkok

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided on Tuesday a high-level meeting to review the country's security situation, and matters related to the upcoming Heart of Asia Conference.

According to Radio Pakistan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security Lt Gen (retd) Nasir Khan Janjua briefed the premier about the recently held meeting with his Indian counterpart in Bangkok.

On December 7, the meeting between Janjua and Indian NSA Ajit Doval lasted over four hours, says joint statement simultaneously released by Islamabad and New Delhi.

Foreign secretaries of the two countries also attended the meeting where peace and security, terrorism and Kashmir dispute were discussed.



The high-level meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq dar and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, among others.

The prime minister met President Ghani on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris last week, and invited the Afghan leader to the conference in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Absar Alam called on the prime minister.

Congratulating Alam for taking charge, PM Nawaz expressed hope and confidence that Pemra would effectively play its role as an independent regulatory media body.
