PESHAWAR: Forty six militants were arrested from Lower Kurram Agency on Friday, security officials said.

Security forces arrested the militants while carrying out an operation in the Durrani area of Kurram Agency.

Nine hideouts and a market were destroyed and 1,800 bags of fertilizers (used for making explosives) were seized from their possession.

Earlier, militants attacked a security forces convoy in Kurram and looted 22 trucks before setting them ablaze.

Over the past few years, Kurram Agency has witnessed a surge in sectarian violence in which hundreds of tribesmen have been killed.

Taliban militants are also active in the Kurram Agency, fanning intolerance and extremism in the volatile region.
