After protests: Injured woman admitted to BSU

Was caught in scuffle over property, denied admission at AMC

ABBOTABAD: A woman who was injured in a scuffle over a property dispute and was denied admission in Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) was later admitted to Benazir Shaheed Hospital (BSH) Monday evening after her relatives and villagers protested, and forced the local administration to intervene.

Talking to The Express Tribune on Tuesday, BSU’s Medical Superintendent Dr Minhaj said, “We have admitted Razia Bibi on the recommendations of tehsil naib nazim Sardar Shujah Ahmed.” He added, “She was suffering from some minor neurological problems but was not in a serious condition.”

Discussing the incident that occurred Monday afternoon, an official of Bagnotar police said a scuffle took place between two rival groups in Phalkot village over a property dispute. Razia Bibi, her husband Sadiq, sons Tanvir and Zubair and daughter Asia Bibi were injured as a result.

He added Razia’s condition was serious so her relatives and villagers took her to AMC for treatment but the doctors at the facility refused to admit her for reasons unknown. The official further said Razia Bibi’s family was not expecting such a decision and this enraged them.

They protested outside the deputy commissioner’s office and demanded action against the doctors and staff of the AMC. They blocked Panjpir Road which affected vehicular traffic on the artery.

He stated after hours of protest, tehsil naib nazim interfered and got the woman admitted to BSH for treatment.
