Provincial Law Minister Barrister Arshad Abdullah said on Thursday that branches of the provincial ombudsman’s office would be established in all districts to address people’s grievances at their doorsteps.
Addressing a two-day workshop on the rights of children organized by the Children Complaint Office of the Federal Ombudsman Office, he said protecting child rights was a responsibility of the government and society.
The provincial government made legislation for improving and protecting child rights and approved Child Protection and Welfare Act 2010 in the provincial assembly.
In addition to rehabilitation centres for children, he said focus is being made to bring victimised children into the mainstream. The government is also striving to help 50,000 runaway children and focus is on vocational training for them. A special section for children will be set up at the Provincial Ombudsman Office where problems related to children shall be addressed, he maintained.
