Pakistan vs West Indies: Haaray haaray hum toh dil se haaray
First of all a moment of silence for everybody who woke up at 3 a.m. to watch this match.
First of all a moment of silence for everybody who woke up at 3am to watch this match.
Another moment of silence for everybody involved in our team selection. At this stage, one must wonder what Younis Khan has on the team management.
Despite losing out on Kohli’s wicket in the match against India, we continued to persist with Umar Akmal behind the stumps.
The extremely defensive decision to go to with eight batsmen, including Afridi, was compounded by negative tactics employed by Misbahul Haq in the field.
Nasir Jamshed was brought into the side in place of Yasir Shah to do exactly what Yasir Shah did in the match against India: ‘Drop a catch’.
Maybe it was Pakistan’s strategy all along to use the dropped catch as an excuse to get Nasir Jamshed off the field. Not that it helped, we proceeded to drop five more catches.
Clearly, we do need a Fielding coach.
The inconsistent umpiring did not help our cause too.
Pakistan’s fabled Mehmannawazee was on show as well with Misbah opting to bring a part time bowler on every time a new batsman came in allowing him to settle before hitting us all over the ground.
If anyone thought watching Pakistan in the field was excruciating, it was going to get much worse when Pakistan came in to bat.
Nasir Jamshed got out before I could even do my first ‘Yo Mama’ joke.
At one stage, Pakistan were 1-4. Despite Pakistan being 1-3, Ahmad Shahzad decided to drive uppishly to a delivery when he had no control over the shot. Maybe Ahmad Shahzad wanted to go to the hotel before everyone else to take a selfie.
Misbahul Haq doubled that score with a single. He later doubled the score again with a boundary.
Our batting makes us long for the players we did not select for the world cup.
The only up side for the Pakistani cricket fans is that we can easily colour our jerseys and start supporting Ireland after we inevitably get knocked out of the world cup.
If a phoenix was to come out of the ashes that is the Pakistan cricket team right now, then we are really ensuring that the tigers are thoroughly cornered before we start playing like cornered tigers.
At this stage I think there is only one thing that awaits our cricket team when they come back to Pakistan.
