CHRISTCHURCH: A revitalised West Indies cashed in on a sensational Pakistan batting collapse to notch their first victory of the World Cup by 150 runs at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday.

The Caribbean cricketers scored 310-6, with 115 runs coming in a swashbuckling final 10 overs involving Lendl Simmons, Andre Russell and Darren Sammy.

Pakistan in reply crumbled to their second straight defeat when they were all out for 160, failing to recover after the top four wickets fell in the first four overs for just one run, the worst start in one-day international history.

The West Indies, meanwhile, blocked out memories of their shock first up loss to Ireland as six batsmen posted scores of 30 or more.

Denesh Ramdin top scored with 51, Simmons added 50 to go with his first match century, Darren Bravo scored 49, Russell smashed 42 off 17 balls while Marlon Samuels and Sammy chimed in with 38 and 30 respectively.

Bravo was unfortunate not to reach what would have been his 17th ODI half-century when he was forced to retire hurt with a pulled hamstring.

It was the second time he required medical treatment after being dazed earlier in the innings when a powerful throw from Younis Khan hit him on the side of the helmet as he scrambled through for a single.

Pakistan’s reply was in trouble when two wicket fell in their first over. At four down it was serious and at five for 25 in the 11th it was all but over.

When the rout was complete, Jerome Taylor had figures of three for 15 and Russell three for 33 Taylor, Russell and captain Jason Holder had steamed in with an aggression that had been absent from the West Indies armoury of late.

Back-to-back defeats to India and West Indies have left Pakistan at the bottom of Pool B while the West Indies chances of making the top four to qualify for they play-offs improved considerably.

While the West Indies batting showed substance lacking in their recent matches, they were assisted by Pakistan having a miserable day in the field compounded by four dropped catches.

Dwayne Smith, on 12, was dropped by Nasir Jamshed off Mohammad Irfan although Irfan was immediately compensated with his next delivery which removed Chris Gayle for four.

The West Indies icon with the “master-blaster” reputation has averaged a mere 14.42 over 19 innings in the 20 months since his last century.

Irfan was guilty of a dropped catch when he gave Simmons a life on 45 while Shahid Afridi spilled Bravo on 46 and Samuels on 29.
On a gloomy day for Pakistan, Jamshed played little part.

He left the field after dropping Smith in the fifth over and took no further part in the West Indies innings although he was seen getting additional batting practice in the nets.

But that was to no avail. He was gone without scoring when he lobbed the second ball from Taylor to Russell at short midwicket.

Taylor finished off the opening over with Younis Khan caught behind for a duck and in his next over dismissed Haris Sohail to have the impressive figures of two overs, three wickets and one run.

Holder bagged his first wicket of the tournament when he had Ahmed Shahzad caught in the gully for one in his first over.

Result as expected. Poor decision after winning the toss. Poor captaincy again. Two matches along with different experiments. Now play with regular wicketkeeper, opener, bowler no part timer either.Recommend

By watching Pakistan cricket team’s the most worst ever performance I would write,id est,Indian ad is much the best and accurate India media made for Pakistan in which a Pakistani couldn’t celebrate victory and Pakistani media declared that ad blood blowing ad because Pakistan cricket team is performing exactly according to the that ad.This has been the most difficult even impossible for Pakistan cricket team to reach quarterfinals by seeing the present Pakistan cricket team’s performance.Pakistan vs West Indies match was being seemed fixed and club cricket team’s performance is many times best than Pakistan cricket team….Recommend

I think based on our current performance next time pakistani team should play the qualifiers with the minnows and if they manage to beat them(Which i seriously doubt) only then they should be allowed to play the world cup. Its heart breaking every time they go down with a spineless performance. In every match when others are batting it seems a flat wicket but when our heroes show up to bat it seems that they are batting on a different track altogether the wicket starts to do all sorts of things……The only catch our team is interested in is the central contract everything else they tend to drop…..they have butter fingers or what ? What do i say about the bowling attack… well they got a well deserved pounding for bowling short. After india Pak match experts were praising Yasir Shah they saw some spark in him and today knowing that windies are not that great against spinners he was seen warming the bench.
I wonder what Mr. Waqar younus’s job is here …. couldn’t he send a message to his dimwits during the match to bowl fuller….where has the yorkers gone sir? have they died with yours and wasim akrams career? And Puh…..lease stop your team from taking horrendous selfies they look more like wanna be’s then athletes.Recommend

It is not a matter of one or two players the whole team failed. We do not have top batting order at all no matter who we try. We do not have test class spinner and we are not willing to give youngsters a chance in presence of our super star. By changing one or two players is not going to change the results. We are in denial and continue to blame everybody but the actual players who failed. The best part of the match was West Indies dismantled our great idols and super stars. We love individuals and mythical characters not the young players.
The two fifties Pakistanis scored when it was of no significance. As long as Akmals are behind the stumps opposing batsmen have no pressure and they have nine lives. Not only Pakistan has to prepare a young team they also have to nurture a captain before Misbah retires. Recommend

Poor team selection again and very poor captaincy by Misbah. When even a child knows how poor Pakistan is at chasing, why on earth he opted to bowl first? Sarfaraz should have been the wicket keeper and opener. Younus should have been in the middle order instead of 1 down. Nasir Jamshed never deserves a place.
Pakistan team does need some psychiatric treatment.Recommend

Pakistan at this point should stop playing any international cricket. Also, the salary of the players should be tied to how many runs they make per match or how many wickets/catches they take per match. That should fix things a bit.Recommend

A pathetic performance by Pakistan gives one of the minnows to reach the Q/F. The fielding coach stand against the three players was vindicated as as two out of them spilled three catches between them. The players indulging in indiscipline and showing casual attitude should either be shown the door or made to sit outside for couple of matches and only then standard of cricket will improve in Pakistan. Pak should be happy, as these 15 men already have so much money , even they lost and could not earn more money its ok , people should not worry for these rich 15 men and few bosses!!

Shaid Afradi and other are not professional cricketer , They are business man and run own restaurant at MM Alam road lahore ,, where they spend most of time to run business in Lahore , however they play cricket on basis of his previous life practice and experience …

These 11 men of Pakistani team r most of them have own private business therefore they could represent Pak as full time professional cricketer

nation should worry for lose of these rich 11 men

No where in international sports one will find businessman as sports man to represent country ,, it can only happen in Pakistan..

corruption is worst object in any society …

However one benefit of corruption is it bring the lazy 11 men team in Pak .. and Pak lost early in tournament, which will save billions of hour to nation , which they r going to give these 15 men.. which will help these 15 men and few Bosses toearn more, as they get all viewership

Cricket destroy the sports culture of Pak ,…. news paper and whole Pak media just promote cricket .
50% of the Pak population(consist on women) love to watch cricket on TV most of time.. when a child born in any family , He/she saw, the mother love cricket , than that baby start to play cricket in pak and other sports get no time and young rich boz…

You can not be blamed for your concerns.

More money perhaps comes from an India-Pak event which, given their current leverage, means Indians being favs….but perhaps only when playing Pakistan. SA or Australia would not accept that lying down even with incentives.

Many cricket fans are now getting increasingly concerned that Empires , in a bid to maintain their employment and perks, would get more actively involved in corruption. Remember how the review went against Akmal in the match against India. Recommend
