Accountability: 3 teachers fired for being absent

Chiniot District Monitoring Officer said 14 teachers had been fined Rs77,000

The Education Department has terminated the services of three teachers in Chiniot and has fined 14 other teachers Rs77,000 each for being absent from duty.


Chiniot District Monitoring Officer Chaudhary Javaid Ahmad Tatla said monitoring teams had paid surprise visits to various schools in the district and found 47 teachers absent from duty. He said they had not sought prior leave from their head of department. Of the absentee teachers, 17 had stayed away from work for a prolonged period, he said.

The schoolteachers who have been fired are: Nayyar Abbas of Tahli Mangeni Primary School, Musarrat Nawaz of Elementary School and Zainab Fatima of Chak 13 Primary School. He said their contracts had been cancelled. He said 14 teachers had been fined Rs77,000. He said the remaining 30 teachers were not habitual absentees.
