KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will launch its campaign for the upcoming local bodies elections in Karachi under the banner, 'Karachi Pukar Raha Hai' [Karachi is calling].

PTI chairperson Imran Khan is also expected to visit the metropolis next month and the party is planning to hold big political gatherings, said PTI Karachi president Ali Zaidi.

The party also formally announced their alliance for the elections with the Jamaat-e-Islami, Majlis-e-Wehdat-e-Muslimeen and Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan - Noorani group.

He said the party is contesting on 93 per cent of the seats in Karachi, adding that on some seats, candidates will contest on the election symbol of PTI, while on others, PTI candidates will contest on other parties' symbols because the chairperson and vice-chairperson can contest on the same symbol only.

Speaking about the distribution of party tickets, Zaidi said the party's candidates have been finalised through a secret ballot by members of the parliamentary board.

The members are mainly PTI's supporters and local leaders, he explained, adding that the party will start issuing tickets to potential candidates from Sunday.
