Lightning: House, school engulfed in flames

Both buildings belonged to PTI worker and Bihali district council member Undas Bibi

A house and a private school in Ogra village, Bihali union council of Mansehra caught fire after they were struck by lightning on Wednesday.


Both buildings belonged to PTI worker and Bihali district council member Undas Bibi. “At first there was only windstorm accompanied by slight drizzle,” Undas Bibi told The Express Tribune. “Later in the night, my house and the school situated right next to it were struck by lightning.”


According to a police official, five rooms at the school and a large portion of the house were engulfed in flames. “Many books and furniture were destroyed,” he said. “Undas Bibi along with her family managed to escape from the building and no casualties were reported”


The fire brigade and villagers managed to extinguish the flames an hour later.


Mansehra district nazim Said Ghulam visited the house and school and directed the Mansehra DC
to assess the level of damage so that Undas Bibi can be compensated.
