Tamil film Iruvar (1997) saw her play the role of a much younger love interest of an older man. This time, however, there's a role reversal as Karan Johar casts Ash to play the love interest of Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor in his upcoming film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

The age difference between the two stars spans out to almost a decade, but that doesn't bother Ash as she gushes excitedly about her role. Here's what Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had to say about the "modern relationship" portrayed in KJo's film.

In an interview with Rajeev Masand, Aishwarya said, “I was very very happy. First he shared it [film idea] with me, and I thought he was just sharing it. And then he said, I’d like you to play this part. And I was like 'seriously? It's an easy yes'."

The actress could hardly stop gushing about working with KJo and shared her admiration for the filmmaker.

"I think it's refreshing that Karan is doing what he is doing as a filmmaker. And his cinema has always excited the audience... Karan and I, we have been meaning to work together since his first film. So it is amazing how life has come a full circle and I’m glad it has eventually worked out,” said the actress.

Talking about the different role she is playing in the movie, she said, “Doing something refreshingly different even in a Karan Johar film, I think that’s always exciting for the actor in me. As an actor, I am open to the craft -- mould me, cast me if you need to."

"Let this be the director’s medium and let us enjoy the magic of cinema, whatever it takes. Because these are stories being told, and they are not far from reality because this is the world we are living in,” added the B-Town actress.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is making her comeback into films with Jazbaa, scheduled to release on Oct 9.
