JAMRUD:

Security forces arrested 17 suspects during a search operation in Khyber Agency on Friday morning.

An official of the political administration said the security forces received an intelligence report that said an armed militant group was seen in Ghundi area of Jamrud town in the wee hours.

He said the Swat Scouts, Khyber Rifles, Khasadar and Levies imposed a curfew in the Ghundi around 6am, sealing all entry and exit points of the area. The security forces then conducted a search operation, during which 17 suspects were arrested and taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

On September 4, the security forces had arrested more than 30 suspects in a targeted operation in Jamrud.

The search operation was launched following a suicide attack in the main bazaar a day earlier. Six people were killed and 56 others injured in the suicide attack.
