Chakwal collision: Seven killed in bus crash

Three of 19 injured stated to be critical

As many as seven people including a child were killed while 19 others were injured when a truck rammed into a bus on the Motorway near the Salt Range in Chakwal.


According to details, the incident occurred at around 4am on Friday when the truck driver lost control owing to faulty brakes and crashed into the bus which had 26 people on board.

The bus was on its way to Lahore from Rawalpindi whereas the truck, loaded with cement sacks, was heading to Lahore from Kallar Kahar. The Kallar Kahar police registered a case of the accident and have initiated investigation, said a police official.

Rescue and relief teams immediately reached the incident site and shifted the bodies and injured to hospitals in Chakwal and Balwal.

Six bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Chakwal and 15 injured people were moved to District Headquarters Hospital Bhalwal. However, four people with critical injuries were later referred to the District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi where one of them succumbed to his injuries. The three others are stated to be in critical.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Abu Bakar, a resident of Chiniot; Yasir Ali, a resident of Hafizabad; Muhammad Nadeem, a resident of Chiniot; Muhammad Arshad, a resident of Khanewal and the truck driver Ahmed Saeed, a resident of Pak Pattan. The child and the man who succumbed to his injuries in Rawalpindi could not be identified.
