ISLAMABAD: Pakistan cricket team's head coach Waqar Younis has said that Pakistan Super League (PSL) is a great opportunity to provide the young players exposure in a big arena.

Talking to private news channel, Waqar said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should try to attract big names from the world of cricket to play in the PSL which is going to be held in Doha, Qatar in February.

Waqar insisted that the PCB must aim to give maximum exposure to under-19 and under-23 players in the league.

He said that such leagues have been held in other countries and they have benefitted from such events.

"We have seen how the Indian premier league (IPL)  has given India so much new talent so it is not just about players becoming financially strong but also about new players getting the required exposure at top level," said Waqar.

Waqar expressed his sympathies regarding Saeed Ajmal's struggle with his new action and the uncertainty surrounding the experienced player's inclusion in the upcoming international assignments.

"It has been difficult for him after remodelling his bowling action and I think it will take some more time before he is effective again with his new action," he said, adding that Ajmal needs to regain his confidence to make a successful return.

He said that the ODI series scheduled against Zimbabwe would provide good amount of time to be prepared for the Pakistan-England series to be played in October.

"We are not going to take Zimbabwe lightly they are a fighting unit but for us the main focus is on the England series since they have just won the Ashes," said Waqar.

US CENTCOM | 8 years ago | Reply I agree, I think the PSL provides a great opportunity for emerging players to play alongside experienced players and further polish their skills. The competitive nature of the format should separate the good from the mediocre, and hopefully, we will see new talent break into the national team. Ali Khan Digital Engagement Team, USCENTCOM
