ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Friday asked the housing ministry to take appropriate measures to get possession of land for a housing project in Bhara Kahu at the earliest.

The committee said the housing ministry should immediately approach the interior ministry for getting possession of 14,000 kanals near Bhara Kahu to construct a housing society to accommodate serving and retired government employees.

The committee meeting chaired by Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari also discussed the issue of non-issuance of allotment letters to employees of constitutional bodies in the Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme.

The Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) director-general told the committee that the FGEHF has completed all procedures for getting possession of 7,000 kanals whereas a consultant has started the design work on the project as well.

The committee directed the FGEHF head to speed-up efforts to complete the process of developing the land without further delay.

Earlier, a state officer said 876 allotments of government accommodations have been made in Islamabad in different categories under the accommodation allocation rules 2002.

The committee directed the officer to provide a complete list of allotments made from September 2014 to August 31, 2015.
