MULTAN: Three teenage girls were shot dead by their male cousin in the name of honour in Pakka Sadhar village in Pakpattan, police officials said on Wednesday.

A female cousin of the girls suffered critical injuries when she tried to stop her brother Ramzan Joiya from slaying the victims.

Police identified Ramzan as a cousin of the three girls and the brother of Farzana, according to details shared by the Multan police.

The slain girls were identified as 19-year-old Aasia, daughter of Ramzan’s maternal uncle Noor Muhammad, Saba, 18-year-old daughter of another maternal uncle Abdus Sattar and 17-year-old Kalima Bibi, daughter of his maternal uncle Abdul Ghaffar.

Police said the three girls were living in Abdul Ghaffar’s home. Apparently Ramzan was infuriated when he saw the three girls at the same place and opened fire on them.

DSP Iftikhar Humayun and SHO Rana Imran Tipu reached the crime site and cordoned off the area. Ramzan Joiya fled after the incident.

Police have handed over the bodies to their legal heirs after post mortem. Police said that the FIR has been registered against Ramzan Joiya at Kalyana prison. DSP Iftikhar Humayun assured that the killer would be arrested soon.
