PM approves water supply scheme for Murree

The meeting also discussed the opening of alternate route from Islamabad to Murree

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday approved various development schemes for Murree including the much-delayed bulk water project.


The scheme will be completed in 18 months with a cost of Rs7 billion by laying a 30km-long pipeline to supply water from River Jhelum to Murree, said a press release issued by the PM’s Media Office.

The meeting was reviewing progress on development projects of Murree.

He was briefed about details and preparatory work undertaken on different projects in the light of decisions made in an earlier meeting.

The meeting was also briefed about the rainwater harvesting system installed with the cooperation of private houses and its extension.

The development and upgradation of Brazilian embassy building as a tourist attraction which will be completed in 10 months, was also approved.

Nawaz directed the officials to undertake the cable car projects and approved the feasibility work on the Bastal Mor to Pindi point option. He also approved construction of a hospital near the general bus stand at Murree

The PM directed the officials to develop Samli sanatorium into a big medical centre and establishment of medical college at the sanatorium.

The meeting also discussed the opening of alternate route from Islamabad to Murree via Kotli Sattian to Patriata through a new expressway.

It considered preparation of comprehensive proposal including a chairlift from Kotli Sattian to Patriata.

The prime minister directed officials to speed up the restoration of GPO, maintaining its originality and serenity and making it a comfortable place for visiting public.
