Three officials killed in Khyber Agency IED attack

Soon after the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the area after the incident.

KHYBER AGENCY: Three officials of the army, including a captain, were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Sandana area of Tirah Valley, Khyber Agency on Wednesday.

Captain Farooq of the Punjab regiment-35 was killed and two soldiers were injured when the IED exploded.

"The attack took place on Wednesday when the security forces were sweeping for IEDs,” a security official said.

He added that the two other army personnel injured in the attack had later succumbed to their injuries.

Soon after the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the area after the incident.

According to the security official, the army has started sweeping the mountainous areas of Tirah for IEDs with the plane area of the agency already cleared.

Officials said most of the region is now under the control of administration and the last pockets of resistance, in Khyber Agency along the border of Tirah Valley of Khyber are being cleared of militants.

Last month two officials of security forces were killed and five members of the bomb disposal unit (BDU) were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Sandana area of Tirah Valley.
