LAHORE:

The provincial government departments should ensure implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP) regarding cleaning of their go-downs and storage houses to ensure that there are no breeding sites for dengue larvae.

In the letter issued on Sunday, EPD Secretary Iqbal Mohammad Chauhan stated that it had been learnt that some departments were not following the SOPs. He added that the chief minister had reiterated his earlier direction that the administrative secretaries should personally oversee the implementation of the SOPs.

Among the measures required of the departments to prevent dengue mosquito breeding sites are disposal of solid waste in dumpsters covered with lids, provision of ventilation of air and timely drainage of rain water at go-downs.

The letter states that goods should be stored in the warehouses in the manner that there is adequate space to walk around the premises.
