Higher education: Names for VCs at 10 universities finalised

LAHORE: The provincial government has finalised names of people to be appointed as vice chancellors (VCs) at 10 public universities, The Express Tribune has learnt.

A Higher Education Department (HED) official said a notification in this regard would be issued next week. He said the appointments would be made for a four year term.

The official said Dr Hassan Amir Shah had been chosen for the post of VC at Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Dr Tahir Amin for Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan, Dr Rauf-i-Azam for University of Education (UoE) and Dr Sarah Shahid for Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).

A GCU spokesperson said the HED had yet to inform the university about the name of the candidate chosen for the job.

The other six universities where appointments of VCs have to be made are University of Sargodha; Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, Rawalpindi; Government Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur; The Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan; Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Information Technology, Multan; and Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology, Rahim Yar Khan.

A search committee formed for the purpose had received 180 applications for the job. It had short-listed 15 candidates who were interviewed in May.
