A device crashing bug has been reported in the extensively used Android operating system for smartphones.

Security service Trend Micro stated on Wednesday, "We have discovered vulnerability in Android that can render a phone apparently dead, silent, unable to make calls, with a lifeless screen," Trend Micro engineer Wish Wu said in a blog post.

Android devices running versions 4.3 through 5.1.1 are particular targets of the bug, which amounts to almost half the number of android users in the world.

The news comes right after another glitch was reported by earlier this week when security researcher Joshua Drake revealed that a texting bug which can be found in media playback engine called ‘Stagefright’ may leave Android users disposed to assaults from hackers.

While the recent bug needs the user to interact with a malicious app or website the one revealed last week is far more worrisome as a simple media message could grant the bug access to a user’s phone.

"This vulnerability can be triggered while you sleep, before you wake up, the attacker will remove any signs of the device being compromised and you will continue your day as usual—with a trojaned phone," Drake said.

The latest bug though can be fixed by restarting your smartphone.

Although while speaking to the Huffington post ,a spokesman for Google said they would provide a fix in a future version of Android, it is likely that any fix could take a while to reach your device due to the diverse range of companies that androids come from.
