KARACHI: Police on Friday registered a case against a senior official for allegedly murdering his wife.

The case was registered at Defence Police Station on behalf of the state against SP Jamshed Inamullah, charging him with the murder of Hina Jamshed, 26. FIR Number 337/15 was lodged on behalf of Sub-inspector Tajuddin under section 302.

According to the details, Hina was brought to the Aga Khan Hospital on July 17, a day before Eidul Fitr, with a gunshot wound to her head. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment on July 22.

SI Tajuddin told The Express Tribune that the police could not record the victim’s statement as she was not in a condition to say anything. However, during investigations, it turned out that she was murdered by the SP based on some circumstantial evidence.

Though a case has been registered, SP Inamullah has yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, SI Tajuddin said that Hina's family had taken the body to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for burial. “The family told us that they will come back for registration of a case but we registered a case on behalf of state as they had failed to show up despite passage of a number of days,” the officer explained.

On the other hand, SP Inamullah has denied all allegations. “It was not a murder but it was just an accident,” he said while defending himself.

Talking to The Express Tribune, he said that he was “busy cleaning my pistol and as my wife was standing nearby at a distance of around 200 feet, my pistol fired accidentally and the bullet hit her head.”

SP Inamullah further claimed that his son, two daughters, and his cook were also present at the time of incident, who then helped him shift the victim to the hospital. He added that he will cooperate with investigations at every level.

The official has served at various posts in Karachi and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and is currently awaiting a posting in Balochistan.
