Educating Pakistan: Thousands visit Express Education & Career Expo 2015

30 universities and colleges participated in event inaugurated by Punjab Governor.

LAHORE: Thousands of students, teachers and professionals thronged to the two-day Express Education & Career Expo 2015 that kicked off at Faletti’s Hotel on Wednesday.

The event was inaugurated by Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana who visited stalls and met with students at the expo. Talking to the media, Rajwana appreciated the effort of the Express Group and said such activities promote education. He said through such events, students received information about educational institutions and provide a platform for interaction between educational institutions and students. He said the Punjab government is assisting needy students by providing need-based student scholarships that is the reason for provincial improvement in the education sector.

The event was organised by Express Group and more than 30 universities and colleges participated in the education expo. As many as 13 competitions have been organised for the expo in which a large number of students participated. Oxford University Press, Punjab Group of Colleges, University of Lahore, Information Technology University, Bahauddin Zakariya University Lahore, ICMA Pakistan, Happilac Paints and Meritorious Education Network are the platinum sponsors of the education expo.

Express Group Associate Director (Marketing) Sharmeen Khurram said that the purpose of the education expo was to get all the educational institutions and students under one roof. This she believed would lead to a meaningful interaction could take place. She said the Express Group started the expo 2 years back and it had helped students seeking information about major educational institutions in the city. The expo had been instrumental in promoting education, she added.

At the Express Education & Career Expo, a large number of students visited various stalls to gather information about the programmes being offered. They also had the opportunity to interact with the staff of the varsities. Ahmed, a visitor at the expo, said he had been researching universities for admission. He said he was awaiting his intermediate result and was now researching universities for admission. He said the expo was helpful as he had access to all universities under one roof.

In the declamation competition, the team from Government College University Lahore (GCU) grabbed the first position. The team from Punjab University (PU) got the second position and Hajvery University (HU) was declared third. In the dramatic competition (group), GCU was declared first, PU remained second and Lahore University received the third position. Special performances by Jawad Ahmed, Amannat Ali, Nadeem Abbas  and Malku are also part of the event.

The education expo will conclude on Thursday (today). The expo is part of a series of education expos by Express Group being held in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.
