LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested eight officials of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) on charges of corruption.

The arrests were made on the directions of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

Malik on November 11 had announced that action would be taken against heads of government departments and that they would be held equally responsible if someone in their department was found guilty of corruption or any other misconduct.

An oversight committee had also been constituted to deal with corruption in governmental departments, consisting of four former federal secretaries, NAB, State Bank and departmental heads.
