PESHAWAR: Irate over alleged injustice on part of the assistant political agent and political tehsildar of Landikotal, tribesmen protested in front of Governor House on Tuesday.

“Both these officers are misusing their authority and detaining innocent tribesmen,” said one protester. He added, “It is time the governor takes notice of the issue or we will keep protesting.”

The tribespeople alleged that since the two—the APA and tehsildar—are involved in corrupt practices, they can also cause losses to the national exchequer. They demanded those locked up without any reason be released at the earliest.

The protesters said if both the APA and tehsildar are not immediately replaced, a similar demonstration will be held in Islamabad, in front of the Parliament House.

Tribesmen from various areas of Landikotal, Jamrud and Mullagori first gathered at Jamrud Sports Complex from where they proceeded in a motorcade to Peshawar. They then stopped to protest in front of Peshawar Press Club. Later on, the rally moved from the press club to the Governor House. There the protesters proceeded to hold a sit-in on Sher Shah Suri Road for two hours.

Landikotal Traders Union President Gul Rahim, Pakistan Peoples Party’s Babu Khan Shinwari and others made speeches at the sit-in.
