MULTAN: An additional district and sessions judge in Multan has summoned the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director for failing to register a case against human traffickers.

He was summoned on a petition by Ramsha Iqbal who told the court that she had met Atiqur Rehman of Shah Rukhn-i-Alam Colony at a wedding. She said he had offered to send her to Dubai to work as a beautician at a saloon. She said he took Rs300,000 from her to secure a visit visa. She said she had sold her jewellery to raise the amount.

She said she lived with Atiq’s wife Shabana and Suhail Amjad. She said they told her that she would be paid Rs70,000 per month and that her work permit would be processed within six months. She said during this time, they started encouraging her into prostitution. She said she was taken to night clubs as an escort where she was paid to keep wealthy men company. She said when she told Shabana and Amjad that she did not wish to continue, they sent her home, saying her visa had expired and that her work permit application had been turned down.

She told the court that 20 other girls lived with Shabana and Amjad. She said when she returned to Pakistan, she moved an application with the FIA to take action against Rehman, who she claimed was involved in trafficking girls. She said she had approached the FIA several times, but her complaint was not taken seriously.

She asked the judge to direct the FIA to investigate her complaint.

She also asked the court to direct police to register cases against Rehman, Amjad and Shabana.

Talking to The Express Tribune, an FIA spokesman said her application was being processed and action would be taken on it in due time.
