DI KHAN:

The only family shopping centre in Tank that was established two months back was targeted by an improvised explosive device on Wednesday.

A police official told The Express Tribune, the explosion occurred in the wee hours of the morning – around 4am – and completely destroyed four shops. He added 10 other shops nearby were also partially damaged.

A local suspected the explosive device to be of around five to six kilogrammes.

He said the device was planted near the main gate of the shopping centre and went off with a loud noise.

Soon after the blast, police reached the site and cordoned off the area to conduct a search operation, said the official. “Police will investigate into the matter as it cannot be said who was behind the attack.”

The shopping centre’s owner, Saeed Muhammad Sunar, told journalists a sale was going on in the centre hence it remained crowded with women during most of the day time.
