Search operation: Suicide bomber attacks Rangers in Orangi town

KARACHI: At least two suspected militants were killed after one of them blew his suicide vest as Rangers conducted a targeted operation in Orangi Town area of Karachi early on Tuesday.

According to witnesses and law enforcement agencies, the blast took place when Rangers personnel were cordoning off the area to conduct a search operation near Pareshan Chowk, Faqir Colony in Orangi Town.

Security forces claimed that the militants first attacked the Rangers by hurling hand grenades at them and small arms fire.

Officials added that they believed there were about half a dozen suspected militants inside a house preparing an explosive laden vehicle when the blast took place. The explosion completely destroyed the house.

A Rangers vehicle parked nearby was also suffered partial damage while a Ranger also sustained minor injuries.

SP Orangi Town Ali Asif said that the bomb disposal squad has been summoned to determine the nature of the blast.

The explosion was so loud enough that it was heard miles away.

After the blast, reinforcements of Rangers, police and the counter terrorism department were called in and a search operation was started. The search was going on till the filing of this report. There were reports that some suspects had also been taken into custody.
