Sectarian killing: Shooting leaves two dead in city

Unidentified people opened fire at car in which four men were travelling

PESHAWAR: Two men were killed while two others were injured when unidentified men opened fire on a car in Hayatabad, Phase I on Friday. 

A police official told The Express Tribune Muhammad Awais, his father Wali Ahmad Jan, brother Murtaza and gatekeeper Iqrar Hussain were en route in a car when they were targeted. The shooters were also in a car and opened indiscriminate fire.

As a result, Murtaza, an engineer, and Hussain died on the spot, while Awais and his father Jan, a retired doctor, were critically wounded.

The shooters sped off while locals rushed the injured to the nearby Hayatabad Medical Complex.

All four victims belong to the Alizai clan of Lower Kurram Agency. They had been currently residing in Hayatabad. They were returning home after offering Friday prayers at Imamia Imambargah when they were targeted.

“It is yet another incident of sectarian violence in the city,” said the policeman. “We are investigating the matter.

However, he added an FIR was yet to be registered of the shooting.

Like other parts of the country, sectarian violence has been on an alarming rise in the provincial capital. Even though police claims it is investigating, the killers usually remain at large.
