Bollywood actresses fail to impress at Cannes

Bollywood celebrities certainly did not live up to the hype at the red carpet

Entertainment Desk May 18, 2015

With Cannes Film Festival under way, all eyes are always on the outfits sported by celebrities and the stylists who dressed them. With high hopes set on Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif to stun audiences and paparazzi on the red carpet; their looks left us disappointed to say the least.

Katrina Kaif's debut appearance at Cannes definitely got our attention, but for all the wrong reasons. On her first appearance, we couldn't decide which was worse: the Oscar De La Renta black lace dress or her red tresses.

The NYPost were actually very being polite when they merely described her hair colour and her dress as "awful". We think it was really much worse.

Katrina did make up for it by donning a red belted Elie Saab number for her second appearance, pairing it up with a pair of 8-inch heels. The dress was not so bad, but when combined with red lips and red hair, it just left us wondering if red was really the only colour in the universe.

While Katrina Kaif has returned from Cannes, Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai have both made their first appearances on the red carpet.

Sonam's electric blue Ralph & Russo couture gown was overwhelming and did the actress' svelte figure no favours. She did manage to avert a complete disaster with her exquisite Chopard sapphire and diamond earrings and blue Zanotti sandals, though.

We have to admit, the actress looked much better in the chic, flowery summery dress she wore as she left the hotel to get styled for her look.

We were definitely expecting a lot more from Sonam, especially after that gorgeous Abu Sandeep sari she had worn at a press conference a few days prior.

Aishwarya too failed to impress us with her green Elie Saab rag, that looked as if it was a size or two small on her.

Dear Aishwarya, we appreciate that you are reluctant to shed your baby weight, but we really think you need to dress for your size - armpit bulge doesn't look attractive on anyone.

As if the colour of the dress wasn't hideous enough, the green liner just made it worse.

Ayesha | 8 years ago | Reply Yes ALL failed to impress and Katrina was miserable. However Sonam and Aishwarya's beauty look were on point I believe. Colored liner is a trend internationally, maybe with the dress and all it looked to much. Alas the bulges I think the designers just send particular sizes and they have to fit in them. Aishwarya had similar incident last year, but give props to her for striding out there in strapless and sleeveless!
Ila | 8 years ago | Reply I think I find this post more appalling than their dresses. The writer is quite opinionated, rude and insensitive. Whether a woman wants to shed baby weight or not is her concern. You can keep your idea of a perfect woman to yourself. Nobody is perfect and she has definitely achieved much more in life than the writer of this post has. Secondly, to reply to the person who has commented that the actresses only look good with bollywood treatment and without that they are the average Indian girl at the spelling bee contest, I would like to say that there is no one type of average Indian girl. There are 1.3 billion people in India and each girl is different in her own. And most Indian girls have to fight to go to school or get new books - so forget about paying registration fees for a spelling bee contest. And studying in indua, I have learnt that India isn't very fond of spelling bee contests either. So you can research a little bit about indua before making assumptions about Indian girls based on the NRIs. I too can make a presumption about average white girl being dumb and ignorant and vain. But I know that not all are like that. Lastly, to the person commenting all these women are shallow, I would like to ask you - do you know them personally? In what basis have you assumed that they are shallow? Just because they like to play dress up and attention big award functions like Cannes? Being shallow is a subjective concept. Don't just throw around words because you know them.
