BANNU:

The Bannu election tribunal issued a stay order and stopped an elected independent candidate from taking oath for Ward-I of Bannu Cantonment. He was asked to appear in court on May 13 (Wednesday).

Like other parts of the province, cantonment board elections were held in two wards of Bannu Cantonment on April 25. According to the official result, Shireen Malik, an independent, was elected from Ward-I, while PTI candidate Mumtaz emerged victorious from Ward-II.

A JUI-F aspirant from Ward-I filed a petition with the election tribunal, saying Malik had been working as a watchman in the irrigation department up till four months ago.

He said according to the rules, a person cannot take part in elections till six months after his or her resignation or retirement from government service. The election tribunal stopped Malik from taking oath and asked him to appear on May 13.
