FAISALABAD:

Scores of residents of Chiniot protested outside the house of National Assembly Member (MNA) Qaisar Ahmad Sheikh on Monday against the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) over a faulty transformer.

The protesters chanted slogans against the FESCO and the government and demanded immediate replacement of the transformer.

Talking to newsmen, Adnan Haidar, a protester, the transformer installed close to the MNA’s house was faulty and kept tripping electricity in other houses in the area.

He said dozens of electronic goods including freezers, refrigerators, energy savers, ceiling fans, pedestal fans and electric water pumps had been destroyed as a result.

He said the residents asked for the transformer to be replaced but had to spend three days without electricity.

On being informed, Sheikh met the protesters and assured them that the transformer would be replaced within 24 hours.

The MNA also asked the protestors to provide him a list of electronics items damaged because of the transformer so that residents could be compensated.

The protesters dispersed on the MNA’s assurance that power would be restored within a few hours.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the MNA nearly 60 transformers were running in the city on two phases.

“I am trying to get all such transformer replaced as early as possible,” he said.
