SWABI:

Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Sherpao urged the federal government to give K-P its due share in energy and infrastructure projects signed during the Chinese president’s visit to Pakistan. He was speaking at a ceremony at Dagai, Swabi on Sunday where leaders of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan, Hazrat Hussain and Zahid Hussain, joined the party.

Sherpao also drew attention to attempts being made to alter the route of the Gwadar-Kashgar trade corridor.

“One of the aims of this project is to tackle militancy and insurgency which have gripped K-P and Balochistan,” he said. “However, the government is using a series of tactics to change its route to Punjab. This is both unjust and inappropriate which will adversely impact Pukhtuns.”

According to Sherpao, Pukhtuns “have experienced massive losses to their properties and businesses”. “The infrastructure in the tribal belt is in a state of disrepair and need to be rebuilt,” he said.

The QWP leader also urged the federal government to announce compensation packages for the internally displaced persons from North Waziristan and Khyber Agency and ensure their timely repatriation.
