KARACHI: At least eight members of the same family were killed, while several others got injured when a speedy dumper hit their van in Karachi's Baldia Town area late on Sunday.

According to SHO Baldia Ejaz Hashmi, the victims were apparently returning from a picnic at Gadani when their hi-roof van was hit in Swat Colony.

The dumper's driver has been arrested, he added.

The dead, including four women and a 10-year-old kid, along with the injured are being shifted to the Civil Hospital.

Rescue and police officials soon reached the site and began with the relief work, and the investigation.

Earlier in March, a passenger bus travelling from Multan to Karachi collided with a truck, killing 13 people and injuring 25 others on the Indus Highway near Khairpur.
