Three murderer convicts were hanged in Gujranwala and Faisalabad central jails on Thursday.
Two of them were hanged in Gujranwala Central Jail. Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Sialvi Town, was on death row for murdering a friend 15 years ago.
The second convict, Ejaz, a resident of Veroki Cheema, had shot dead a man, Zulfikar, 20 years ago.
Their appeals had been rejected by the Supreme Court and the president. They were hanged at 5.30am on Thursday. Special Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Salim Malik was present on the occasion. Both recorded their wills before the execution.
Their bodies were handed over to their families. Security was beefed up at the jail ahead of the executions.
Black warrants have been issued for another murder convict at the central jail. Inayatullah is to be hanged on April 21.
Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ameer Muhammad Khan has appointed Special Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Salim Malik to oversee the execution.
Inayatullah, a resident of Lowairi Wala, had shot dead Mirza Khan, Saifullah, Sufyan, Adnan, Rehanah, Soni and Bashir in 2004 over old enmity. The jail authorities have received the black warrants and made all arrangements to carry out the execution.
A murder convict was hanged on Thursday in Faisalabad Central Jail.
Zafar Iqbal, a resident of Mughalpura, had been sentenced to death for killing a woman during a robbery 10 years ago.
The executions of two other death row prisoners were postponed. Nizam Deen and Muhammad Hussain had been sentenced to death in separate cases by anti-terrorism courts. Deen, a resident of People’s Colony, had murdered three people 17 years ago. Hussain, a resident of Chak 367, had been convicted of murdering three people by an anti-terrorism court.
Their counsel told the special magistrate that they had made major progress in negotiating with the complainants. The magistrate then postponed the hangings.
The magistrate directed the counsel to move the relevant courts for further proceedings on the cases of the convicts.
